Reducing food waste in a colorful way.
Problem:
Expiration dates are arbitrary, and not required by law, but lead to the disposal of 160 billion pounds of food each year.
Idea:
Let’s remove expiration dates all together, and instead, replace the dates with stickers that utilize time-sensitive ink to measure the food’s freshness level. The ink will start as a solid green, then over time and after being exposed to carbon dioxide, it will fade to a white. Removing the fresh messaging from the label and indicating that the food is not longer at it’s peak of quality.
